The process that green plants use.
Reactants for photosynthesis
 CO2 (carbon dioxide)
 Sunlight
 H2O (water)
 Chlorophyll

Products of photosynthesis
 Plant food (glucose) C6H12O6 (sugar)
 O2 (oxygen)


Takes place in leaves of plants
6 CO2 + 6H2O + sunlight
C6H12O6 + 6 O2

What factors could affect the rate of
photosynthesis?
 A cloudy day
 A dry day
 A cold day
 A hot day

2 stages of photosynthesis
 Stage 1 = chlorophyll traps the sunlight’s energy
and gives off oxygen
 Stage 2= water and CO2 combine to produce
energy. Glucose gives the plant energy to grow.

The opposite of photosynthesis
Animals and plants go through respiration.
 Animals breathe in oxygen and it goes through
the blood stream and lungs. The oxygen then
changes into carbon and exits the body through
exhaling.

Plants go through respiration in their tissues.
Oxygen and other gases pass through the leaves in
the stomata to get to the plant.

Stomata are small openings found on the top layer of a
leaf (epidermis).

The release of water vapor through the
stomata in the leaves.
