Introductory Physical Chemistry Laboratory
From Book News, Inc.
"Makes concepts and methods of physical chemistry clear and interesting to students who have had a year
of calculus and a year of physics. Material is given in sections on thermodynamics, quantum chemistry,
kinetics, and macroscopic and microscopic structures. Learning features include chapter summaries,
problems, and computer problems, with selected answers. Computer problems are new to this edition, and
require software such as Mathematica or MAPLE. A related change is the use of Mathematica plots in
some 50 figures. Mathematical review appendices have been expanded for this edition. Silbey teaches
chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Alberty is professor emeritus at MIT."
Physical Chemistry Atkins' Physical Chemistry Seventh Edition Peter
Atkins, University of Oxford, and Fellow of Lincoln College Oxford, and
Julio de Paula, Professor of Chemistry, Haverford College, PA, USA ,
7-th Edition,, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-879285-9, QD3.

undergraduate Pchem course.... While the text provides a lot of good info, the writing style is very highlevel and unmotivating, I often got very sleepy while reading the book. A good text supplements the course
lectures, and this one *certainly* did not. Also, check out their references sections at the end of each
chapter...many of them are from *old* sources! Well, no wonder, in the Preface they say that their book
had been written over the last 83 years! Time to ditch this textbook. I'd recommend Atkins' PChem text."
