Fulham Central Children's and Community Centre
London SW6
Value:
£1m
Client:
London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham
Programme: 41 weeks
Contract:
JCT 2005 Design and Build
Description
New Build
Design and build of a new Children’s and Community Centre in Fulham
which incorporated a new kitchen, a children’s centre, two halls and an IT
suite.
The super insulated structure with pre-cast concrete floors has solar PV
panels, sedum green roof, and triple insulated polycarbonate roof-lights to
aid passive ventilation and cooling and to provide natural daylight.
The Centre is located 50 metres from Parsons Green tube depot, so required
close working with Transport for London when mobile cranes were required.
The Community was involved at all stages of the design by Hammersmith
and Fulham Tenants and Residents Association, ensuring that all local
stakeholders supported the project.
Training in plastering and painting was given to two local youths over several
weeks during the building works as part of the CTI (Construction Training
Initiative). A local artist painted a community inspired double storey mural
on the front elevation and local children completed the mural from ground
level.
Without affecting the district line, the building was completed on time and
was officially opened by the local ward councillor.
