She has over 12 years of experience in research, policy and practice gained in the private and public sectors. During this time, Elizabeth’s focus has been on climate change adaptation, resilient economic development, and governance, primarily in the livestock sector and arid and semi-arid lands of sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia. Current projects include: Research lead on project Opportunities for climate-resilient economic development for key sectors using novel Value Chain Analysis for Resilience in Drylands (VC-ARID) approach for IDRC/DFID Pathways to Resilience in Semi-Arid Economies (PRISE) programme. Sectors include livestock in Kenya, Senegal, Ethiopia and Tajikistan and cotton in Pakistan and Burkina Faso. Research lead on CDKN Enhancing opportunities for climate change outcomes in development programmes in Uganda, using the VC-ARID and Knowledge Systems Analysis methodologies to identify economic opportunities for investment in adaptation to enhance the resilience of Uganda’s livestock value chain. Research Coordinator, lead on Challenging Assumptions synthesis and lead for risk governance research in Horn of Africa and the Sahel for DFID Building Resilience to Climate Extremes and Disasters (BRACED) Knowledge Manager. Research lead on GIZ-REEEP Business Cases for Clean Energy Cooling Solutions in Dairy Value Chains, Analysing and sharing experiences from South Asia and East Africa project. Advisor on scoping options and mechanisms for institutional strengthening in Uganda, Kenya, Mali and Senegal for DFID BRACED Component D. Advisor on GIZ Evaluating the impact of natural resource management interventions on land, water and pastoral livelihoods in the Afar Region of Ethiopia project. 2014 -15 Senior Research Officer Research relating to adaptation and resilience. Past projects include: Lead evaluator for ECHO La Nina resilience programme, Phases III and IV. Project lead on IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) policy analysis for Technical Consortium for Building Resilience in the Horn of Africa of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Lead author on project assessing the contribution of ecosystem services to human resilience for Rockefeller Foundation. Specialist research input and co-author for outputs of DFID Future Climate for Africa (FCFA) scoping phase. Research support to UNISDR Science and Technology Major Groups, advocacy activities including participation in intergovernmental meetings and production of outreach materials and research reports.
