Broglie and Schrodinger
Louis de Broglie proposed an
atomic theory, which stated that
any and all matter moving at
some velocity would have the
properties of a wave. Soon
after Broglie put forth this
theory, Ernst Schrodinger used
his ideas to create a wave
equation.

This equation explains the new
mechanics of how an electron
moves. The model that
Schrodinger proposed is not a
physical model of an atom, but
a mathematical model of an
atom. Schrodinger’s equation
predicts only some properties
of an atom.
Schrodinger treated an electron
as a wave, not like a single
particle. The equation created
can determine where an
electron could be, but not
where it actually is. The
arrangement of electrons is
uncertain and complex.
Schrodinger sees the electron
shell as “layers within
layers”.
“The Schrodinger atom is
shown to be the only model
in which electrons do not
lose their energy through
emission when they move
around the nucleus.”
The wave equation has
practical application,
such as, a new study of
quantum
electrodynamics.
This model is very advanced.
It was built upon Broglies’s
research of an atom which
came right before
Schrodinger’s model. It
expanded upon Broglie’s
theories and created an
equation for them.
Want to know more? There is a lot of other
information about atomic models! Science is
ever changing and we know more every day.
Schrodinger’s model is better
than Bohr’s previous model
because Bohr’s model could
not explain complex atoms.
Schrodinger’s model is still in
use today.
Schrodinger used Broglie
’s
research to create his ow
