Mr. Wang Chaoyong is the founding Chairman & CEO of ChinaEquity
Group, one of the leading venture capital and private equity firms in China. Founded in 1999,
ChinaEquity Group manages multi-billion US dollar and RMB funds, investing in sectors such
as TMT, Financial Services, Healthcare and Clean Tech.
With 27 years of financial and investment working experience, Wang has led over 70 investment
projects such as Baidu, Sohu, Huayi Brothers and Aston Martin.
Before founding ChinaEquity Group, Mr. Wang worked for major financial institutions for 12
years. He started his banking career with J.P. Morgan in 1987 in New York. In 1993, Mr. Wang
joined Morgan Stanley as a founding member of the investment team and became the head of the
Beijing office.
From 1998 to 1999, Mr. Wang was a Deputy Director-General of the Investment Department of
China Development Bank.
Mr. Wang has a Bachelor of Engineering in MIS from Huazhong University of Science and
Technology, a Master degree from Tsinghua University and an MBA degree from Rutgers
Business School.
Mr. Wang Chaoyong has received numerous awards including Top 10 Most Successful Western
Returned Entrepreneur in China and Aspen 7 in Brainstorm by Fortune. He is also a frequent
speaker to leading investment conferences and universities.
In addition, Mr. Wang also holds social posts such as Funding Secretary-General of China
Venture Capital Association (CVCA), Inaugural Member of Yale Asia Development Council,
Executive Director of WRSA, Director of China Entrepreneurship Club, Advisory Board
Member of Carnegie-Tsinghua Center, etc.
Mr. Wang Chaoyong is the founder of China Team, the first Chinese team in America’s Cup
history and the co-founder & investor of China Grand Rally. Mr. Wang Chaoyong is also the
sponsor of Dr. Lishizhen Education Charity Foundation and a donor to the Tsinghua University
Endorsement Fund.
