Writer-in-residence We are pleased to invite applications for a writer-in-residence, to accompany our exhibition of John Akomfrah’s film installation Vertigo Sea (16 January – 10 April 2016). This residency is intended as an opportunity for a writer to spend time at Arnolfini working in response to the exhibition. We expect the writer-in-residence to provide an independent perspective and response through which our audience’s engagement with the exhibition may be enhanced. The residency is open to writers working with criticism, fiction, or poetry. However, we are particularly interested in applications from writers working with experimental or cross-disciplinary approaches. We expect the writer-in-residence to spend at least 15 days at Arnolfini over the course of the exhibition. During this time, we would like them to devise and present two public events that will showcase aspects of the research they undertake, and to write a minimum of 3 entries for Arnolfini’s blog. Supervisory sessions will be available, as will support with presentation and managing events. Budget: £500 honorarium fee. Additionally, £500 towards production, research and travel. Themes: the sea, migration, slavery, memory, conflict, psychocartography. Suggested bibliography/references: Heathcote Williams: Whale Nation (1988) Kodwo Eshun: Ghosts of Songs – The Art of the Black Audio Film Collective (2007) Philip Hoare: Leviathan (2009), and The Sea Inside (2014). Applications should include a covering letter explaining why you think you would be suitable for the residency, a CV, and a sample of writing of no more than 250 words.
