Horse Minerals
The core mineral supply to your horse is from the forage which
makes up the bulk of its diet. In the summer this is usually
fresh grass, in the winter it will be hay or haylage. Nutrient
supply is then topped up using additional feeds and specific
mineral supplementation.
Forage minerals are affected by soil type. The north of
Scotland is quite unique in its soil type due to the granite bed
rock. Grassland management, plant species and seasonality
also affect the mineral supply to your horse throughout the
year. For example, forages in the Grampian area are typically
low in Selenium, Cobalt and available Copper. Due to our
latitude, lack of sunlight and short daylength in the winter
months reduces your horse’s own ability to produce Vitamin
D. This exacerbates the low level of the major mineral Calcium
in the soil.
Four key nutrient groups are included in Norvite Horse
Supplements: Macro minerals, trace elements, vitamins and
amino acids. Vital to the daily functioning of all animals a
deficiency in supply can negatively affect the health, growth or
performance of your horse. Norvite Supplements are blended
to complement your horse's core diet.
Specific deficiency symptoms are not easy to define as many
of the nutrients interact with one another and have multiple
roles within the horse. Below optimum performance of your
horse may be linked to a mild or sub-clinical deficiency.
