Chemistry Research Assignment: Element Power point
You will work individually to research two specific elements from the Periodic Table. All information and
diagrams will be presented as a PowerPoint, Google Presentation, or Keynote slide show. Include the following
information:
 Your name, and the name of the elements
 Show a Periodic Table square for your element that displays the Atomic Symbol, Atomic Number, and
Atomic Mass of the element
 Show a diagram or artistic depiction of the atom that includes protons, neutrons, and electrons in their
proper “orbits”
 Describe the physical properties of the element
o Melting and boiling points
o State of matter at room temperature
o Density
o Color / luster / appearance
o Other relevant properties
 Describe at least five common compounds (molecules) that include the element (give name and
molecular formula of compounds)
 Describe at least two minerals (crystals, gemstones) that are largely composed of the element; include
the name of the mineral and its molecular formula
 Provide actual photographs of the element in its natural state and in manufactured items that use the
element
 Describe how humans use the element (either directly or in manufactured items)
 Tell where in the world the element is commonly found or mined (include maps if appropriate); what
form (ore) it is found in; and the cost of the element (per gram or kilogram)
 Describe the history of the element: its initial discovery; how it has been used throughout human
history; its impact on humans
 Provide a bibliography of the sources of information you used (MLA format)
 All text must be your original work (in your own words) except the diagram of the atom and any
photographs
