11. How did Americans at home support the war effort?
Explain how a US Factory can
change to a Factory to produce
War Time Items.
Before WWII, US was in the
Great Depression.
During the War factories
changed to produce goods to help
win the war.
When the war was over, the
factories had to go back to
making the consumer good.
Like - Automobiles -> Tanks
Thousands of
American women
took jobs in defense
plants during the
war (e.g., Rosie the
Riveter).
American
involvement in World
War II brought an end
to the Great
Depression. Factories
and workers were
needed to produce
goods to win the war.
The need for workers
temporarily broke
down some racial
barriers (e.g., hiring in
defense plants),
although
discrimination against
African Americans
continued.
What is a Ration Book & Stamps?
Was a way for family’s to keep
track of the goods they need to
conserve to make sure there was
enough for everyone in the US and
to support the troops fighting in
WWII.
Americans at home
supported the war by
conserving and
rationing resources.

13. How did Conserving and Rationing help US Troops fighting in WWII? ____It made
sure there was enough food/supplies for people at home and troops._____________
14. The need for __Workers_____ temporarily broke down some ____Racial_____
___Barriers_____ in Defense ___Plants________. Although ___discrimination_____ against
___African______ Americans continued.
15. While many ____Japanese_______ Americans served in the armed forces, others were treated with
____distrust______ and ______prejudice_______. Many were _____forced______ into
______Internment______ camps.
