Annemarie Lewis Thomas – Composer/Lyricist/Musical Director
Annemarie Lewis Thomas is a published composer and lyricist as well as
Musical Director and arranger. She has composed for musicals for productions
in London, European tours, regional theatre, pantomimes and commissions for
youth & student productions.
Composing credits include: THE OPEN DOOR, GIRL IN THE ASHES, GREAT
EXPECTATIONS and FOOL'S GOLD, all full length musicals written in
collaboration with Gerry Flanagan and commissioned by YMT:UK. In collaboration
with Phil Willmott, Annemarie wrote the music to AROUND THE WORLD IN 80
DAYS, UNCLE EBENEZER and THE WOLF BOYS. For the Theatre Royal Bury St
Edmunds Annemarie composed the score for BLACK EYED SUSAN, and wrote the
songs for three pantomimes: CINDERELLA AND THE GLASS SLIPPER, PUSS IN
BOOTS and JACK AND THE BEANSTALK– all written with Daniel O’Brien.
DANGEROUS DAUGHTERS(2010),CELEBS ANON(2011), THE SUNSHINE
GANG(2012), THE BALLAD OF KITTY JAY(2013), JUST THE TICKET(2014)
and most recently THE BALLAD OF KITTY JAY(2015) were all written in
collaboration with Nick Stimson.
In 2013 as part of the From Page to Stage season at the Landor, Aria
Entertainment produced An Evening of the Music and Lyrics of Annemarie
Lewis Thomas featuring West End performers.
Most recently Annemarie wrote the songs for new versions
of ALADDIN, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST with books by Daniel O’Brien, which
played at the Courtyard Theatre and BGAC (London). She wrote some additional
incidental music for a revival of Nick Darke’s TING TANG MINE directed by Tilly
Vosburgh, also performed at the Courtyard Theatre, and wrote the songs for the
UK tour of BOXED IN for Shifting Sands Theatre Company.
MD credits include: RENT (Olympia Theatre, Dublin), ANNIE (UK No 1 Tour), UK
premieres of CALAMITY JANE (BAC), VICTOR/VICTORIA, REEFER
MADNESS, THE ULTIMATE MAN (Bridewell) NAKED BOYS SINGING (Madam
JoJos), MARTIN CHARNIN’S 9 AND A HALF QUID REVUE 9(The King’s Head).
For many years she was the MD for the award winning Steam Industry responsible
for hits such as THE KING AND I, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, SEVEN BRIDES
FOR SEVEN BROTHERS & SOUTH PACIFIC. More recent MD credits have
included: WEST END BACKWARDS (King’s Head Theatre), FROM UP HERE
(PERFECT PITCH SHOWCASE) (Trafalgar Studios, West End), PAYBACK
(workshop at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and supervised the demo recording),
SONGWRITER’S UNION (Union Theatre, London) in addition to working on
various workshops of new shows.
As a much sought after accompanist, Annemarie has worked with people such as,
Maria Friedman and Liz Robertson (for masterclasses as part of the London Festival of
Cabaret), Andy Bell, Patti Boulaye, Ceri Dupree, Ria Jones, Rachel Tucker, Mari
Wilson, Diane Langton, Peter Polycarpou, Joanna Lee, Julie Paton, Paul L Martin and
Howard Samuels.
In 2009 Annemarie opened The MTA (The Musical Theatre Academy) running the
UK’s 1st accelerated learning programme for triple threat performers. In 2012 it was
named as the School of the Year in The Stage 100 Awards. To date every student has
graduated from The MTA having obtained agent representation, and on average 70% of
its graduates are working at any given time.
