The interests to join LCGT Xiang-Hua Zhai 翟向华 [email protected] Shanghai United Center for Astrophysics(SUCA), Shanghai Normal University 2011.02.05. ICRR Motivation • Last summer, Prof. Wei-Tou Ni joined SUCA, Shanghai Normal University • Prompted by Prof. Ni, some colleagues are discussing possible participation in the LCGT project. • I am interested in the quantum scheme of LCGT 2011.02.05. ICRR Quantum noise in LCGT • The sensitivity of LCGT is limited by the quantum noise ——shot noise and radiation-pressure noise – Shot noise is relating to input laser power – Radiation-pressure noise arises from the quantization of the electromagnetic field • The optimal sensitivity SQL can be reached for a given frequency where shot noise and radiation pressure become equal by choosing the best light power 2011.02.05. ICRR My interests • QND study: obtaining a sensitivity better than the SQL – Squeezed light plays a key role in increasing the sensitivity without increasing the laser power and enabling the cryogenic cooling of the interferometer • Optomechanical coupling between radiation pressure and mirror motion : – The effect of the GW is transduced onto the motion of a mirror through optomechanical coupling and then detected by measuring the local motion; – The quantum fluctuations in the power of the beams impinging on the mirrors lead to real mirror displacements having the same effect as that of a gravitational wave. • reading relevant papers and preparing myself to do works towards the above topics. • included in the collaborator list of the proposal “Quantum noise analysis and QND study for LCGT” applied by Prof. Somiya. 2011.02.05. ICRR My research • Research experience – nonlinear optical property of polymer films – Topological defects in early universe – Dark energy – Casimir effect • 39 papers published • Supported by NSFC and Shanghai government and SHNU 2011.02.05.
