Organism that makes its own food from sunlight (e.g. grass). Also
called autotroph.
62. Consumer –
An organism that eats other organisms or organic matter to obtain
energy.
- Herbivore eats only plants
- Carnivore eats only meat
- Omnivore eats plants and meat
- Scavenger eats dead material
63. Decomposer -
Consumer that gets its food from dead organisms (mushroom)
64. Key Stone Species –
Species that are critical to the survival of an ecosystem: sea otter,
menhaden. (Different from flagship species like the polar bear
which attracts support for fighting global warming.)
65. Roger Tory Peterson-
Famous naturalist, artist, birdwatcher. Created Peterson Field
Guide System using field marks. Author of Peterson Field Guide to
the Birds.
