Zeus – the king of the Gods
 God of: the sky, the weather & oaths.
 His Symbols: eagles, thunderbolt, scepter, the stout oak
& the hardy olive.

Fact: He is brother to Hades & Posidon. An
Olympian.
Hera – the queen of the Gods
 Goddess of: heaven, marriage & childbirth.
 Her Symbols: peacock, black crow, cow, jewel crown,
diadem, veil.
 Married to: Zeus
 Fact: An Olympian.
Poseidon
 God of : earthquakes, the seas & the oceans.
 His Symbols: Trident, horses, dolphins & earthquakes.
 Fact: He is brother to Zeus & Hades. An Olympian.
 Married to: Amphritrite.
Athena
 Goddess of : wisdom, reason, arts, war tactics, war
strategy, crafts, defence & literature.
 Her Symbols: owls, the olive tree, spear, helmet &
shield.
 Fact: An Olympian.
Aphrodite
 Goddess of: love, beauty & desire.
 Her Symbols: dove, swan, seashell, sparrow, myrtle,
apple, mirror & her magic girdle.
 Fact: An Olympian.
Ares
 God of: war & violence.
 His Symbols: vulture & dog.
 Wears/carries: a helmet, a spear & a shield.
 Fact: An Olympian.
Hephaestus
 God of: fire, blacksmiths, volcanos, sculptors, building
& metallurgy.
 His Symbols: hammer, axe, donkey, anvil & a pair of
tongs
 Fact: An Olympian.
Apollo
 God of: music, healing, shepherds, medicine, poetry &
oracles.
 His Symbols: lyre, bow, dolphin, laurel.
 Facts: He harnesses the sun to his chariot and pulls it
across the sky. He has an oracle called Pythia or more
commonly known as the Oracle of Delphi. He has a
twin sister called Artemis. An Olympian.
Demeter
 Goddess of: harvest, grain, agriculture, farms, corn &
crops.
 Her Symbols: a sheaf of wheat, torch & sheaf.
 Fact: An Olympian.
Dionysus
 God of: wine, fertility, festivals & agriculture.

His Symbols: vines, twirling ivy &pinecone topped
staff.
 His followers: goat-footed satyrs & Maenads (wild
woman).
 Fact: An Olympian.
Hermes
 God of: commerce, travellers & thieves.
 His Symbols: a staff called a Caduceus & a pair of
winged sandals.
 He is the messenger of the gods & he is the protector
of thieves & travellers.
Hades
 God of: the Underworld, the dead, death & wealth.
 His Symbols: pitchfork (2 pronged fork) & helmet of
invisibility.
 Pet: a 3 headed dog called Cerberus.
 Married to: Persephone.
 Facts: He is brother to Zeus & Poseidon.
Artemis
 Goddess of: hunting, the moon, young maidens, girls,
natural environment, archery, chastity & virginity.
 Her Symbols: the moon, the deer, bow, arrows, stags,
hunting dog & the bear.
 Fact: She is the twin sister to Apollo. An Olympian.
Hestia
 Goddess of: family, the hearth & domestic life.
 Her Symbols: hearth & home.
 Fact: She gave up her place as an Olympian for
Dionysus. A former Olympian.
