Locate the apex. Position the heart on your body as if it was your heart.
Identify the right and left sides as well as the anterior and posterior
surfaces.
Describe the two parts of pericardium. What is the function of the
pericardium?
Name the 3 walls of the heart from superficial to deep. Which layers can
you identify on the plastic model?
Which wall of the heart is the thickest? Why is it the thickest layer?
Locate the 4 chambers of the heart. What are the upper chambers called?
What are the lower chambers called?
What is the function of each chamber?
Locate the interventricular septum. What does it separate?
Locate and name the three veins that deliver the deoxygenated blood to the
heart. What color are the veins on the model?
Where does blood go as it leaves the right atrium? What valve does blood
pass through to get there?
Locate the main pulmonary trunk on the model. What color is it? The
pulmonary trunk divides into left and right arteries. Where does each of
these arteries deliver blood to?
In the lungs, the deoxygenated blood unloads carbon dioxide and picks up
oxygen. This oxygenated blood then enters the left atrium via what veins?
Locate these veins on the model. What color are they? How many are
there?
After leaving the left atrium, blood passes in the left ventricle. Which
valve does blood pass thru to get from the left atrium to the left ventricle?
Which valve does blood pass through as it leaves the left ventricle to pump
into the ascending aorta?
Locate the aortic arch and the right coronary arteries. What color are
they? Why do you think they are this color?
Name the two atrioventricular (AV) valves.
Name the two semilunar valves.
Find the chordae tendineae. What is their purpose?
Can you see the pappilary muscle?
Locate the right and left coronary arteries. Where did you find them?
What is their purpose?
