In addition to these core functions the TN-1X’s vast array of plug-in cards provides greater flexibility plus the ability to handle data. • Flexible architecture allows Terminal Multiplexer (TM), regenerator, and Add/Drop Multiplexer (ADM) configurations The TN-1X hardware consists of a standard common shelf and backplane and a range of optical and electrical plug-in units, including tributaries and aggregates. Full mixing of tribs and aggregates allows the optimum mix for applications. • 75 and 120 ohm 2 Mbit/s ports The TN-1X has field proven reliability based on: • Experience, with over 25,000 synchronous elements deployed worldwide • Automated remote software download • In service upgrade • Integrated Network Management to contain whole life costs Features of the TN-1X • Point and click end path management system • Remote software download • STM-1/4 optical aggregate port • 34 Mbit/s / 45 Mbit/s (VC12/ VC3) • Aggregate and Tributary protection (Path Protection and N+1) • Class B EMC compliant TN-1X Attributes • Flexible architecture has enabled the TN-1X to address all STM-1 network applications in providing: - transport rings - access to customer sites - space efficient multiplexers • The TN-1X fully inter-works with the TN-1P and TN-1C for customer premises applications • A proven and integrated upgrade strategy enables seamless feature additions • G.826 Performance Monitoring • Integrated and scalable network management up to 10,000 network elements from a single platform • Portable Computer (PC) terminal, for local configuration and test facilities • Simplified network planning, management and installation procedures Added value provided through Network Management • In service upgrade path to STM-4 line rates as traffic demand increases • Engineering Order Wire (EOW) • External alarm inputs Surveillance and control is provided through Nortel’s Integrated Network Management System (INM), where up to 10,000 network elements can be controlled from a single screen. The Nortel low capacity SDH family of products provides seamless network control directly into both residential and business premises. The Nortel low capacity SDH product range under the Management System allows network operators the opportunity to integrate their entire transmission network into an SDH management system. • Single fibre working and Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM), used where fibre is at a premium Applications • Wireless base station links • PBX • Primary rate ISDN • LAN - LAN • WAN • Switch remote units • VPN • Private circuits OPTera Metro TN-16X TN-16XE Interworking amongst SDH Network Elements NetworkEOW NetworkEOW 16x2 Mbit/s TN-1C TN-1X NetworkEOW TN-4XE STM-1 Ring TN-1X Spur link TN-1 X TN-1C Low Cost Access 8x2 Mbit/s TN-1X Full Access CPE 63x2x2 Mbit/s Mixed High Density Services The Management system supports a comprehensive set of management features including: • End-to-end path management • Centralised alarm gathering and reporting • Test and configuration control • Remote software download to network elements • Bandwidth and performance management Why Nortel Networks? • Global leader in the development and deployment of SDH and SONET transmission and access solutions providing a complete product portfolio with total functional coverage. • IP-optimised optical networking solutions, designed with high reliability to support revenue earning customer applications and global web-based services. • Mission-critical, next-generation networks unifying data and telephony in order to revolutionise the way people work, do business, enjoy entertainment and share ideas to create new knowledge. • The highest per-fibre capacity commercially available in the marketplace – Nortel Networks’ 10 Gbit/s transmission system, plus Dense-Wavelength Division Multiplexing (D-WDM), provides up to 320 Gbit/s of capacity. • Compliant with European EMC requirements, a member of numerous telecommunications standards bodies and a Y2000aware supplier. • An organisation which reflects the attributes of its customers – passionate, savvy, pioneering.
