Science 7 Journal Entry: Genetics and
Punnett Squares
In your journal create and entry titled “Genetics and Punnett Squares”
and complete the following:
1. Describe the difference between a heterozygous genotype and a
homozygous genotype (both kinds!).
2. Identify the only genotype an organism can have in order to show
the recessive phenotype.
3. Predict how sexual reproduction is beneficial for the survival of
species. How is it helpful/good that offspring are not identical to
their parents or siblings?
4. Create a Punnett square question and fill out the Punnett square
accordingly. Make sure to describe the trait, the difference
between the alleles (which is dominant and which is recessive),
and describe the percentages of phenotypes possible in the
offspring.
