GOLDEN VISA – Frequently Asked Questions
I. What is the Golden Visa?
The Golden Visa is a temporary residence for those who pursue investment activities in Portugal.
II. Which options to apply for a Golden Visa?
There are three options for anyone interested in obtaining the Golden Visa permit:
1. Capital transfer equal to or above € 1.000.000,00 (includes investment in shares);
2. Creating, at least, ten job positions;
3. Acquisition of property a value equal or above € 500.000,00 (with the possibility to lease or encumber the
property).
III. What are the benefits of the Golden Visa?
• Free movement through Schengen Area (European Union);
• Ability to live and work in Portugal and other countries of the EU;
• Ability to obtain a permanent residence visa after five years;
• Ability to require Portuguese citizenship after six years;
• Ability to request for Family Reunification;
• Attractive tax regime.
IV. For how long is the Golden Visa granted?
The Golden Visa is granted for one year, renewable for two successive periods of two years, meaning five years in
total.
V. What are the requirements for renewal?
• Maintenance of the investment for a period of five years;
• Obligation to stay in the national territory for a period of 7 days in the first year and 14 days for each period of the
next 2 years.
VI. Where can the Golden Visa be required?
1. At any Portuguese Diplomatic and Consular Post abroad;
2. At the Regional Directions of the Portuguese Foreign and Borders Service (SEF) in Portugal.
VII. What are the administrative costs of the procedure?
• Process analysis fee: € 514,80
• Granting fee: € 5.147,80
• Application for renewal analysis fee: € 514,80

VIII. Which are the legal Requirements?
According to the Portuguese Law, it is also necessary to meet the following requirements:
• Applicants must not have been convicted of a crime punishable in with a prison sentence exceeding one year;
• Applicants must not have their name on alert in the integrated information system of SEF (Foreign and Borders
Service) and in the Schengen information system;
• Applicants must not subject of an entry ban in Portugal.
IX. What documents will be needed?
• Passport or other valid travel document;
• Proof of legal entry and stay in the national territory;
• Proof of Health Insurance in Portugal;
• Criminal Record certificate from the country of origin or the country of residence (longer than a year);
• Proof of no debts before the Portuguese Tax Authority and Social Security;
• Declaration under oath testifying to fulfil the minimum requirements concerning the quantity and time of the
investment activity.
