membrane-bound stacks known as
cisternae. Between five and eight
are usually present.

In plant cells, the Golgi secretes the
cell plate and cell wall.
It was discovered in 1898 by Camillo
Golgi.
In some protists, there may be as
many as 60 cisternae!
