Fashion for the Roman

What do Romans really wear in a typical day? In a hot and sunny climate they
need to have as little clothes as possible. There is no need at all for heavy clothes.
Most clothing was made from linen. Linen is easy and comfortable to wear. Linen
was made from stalks of flax plants and woven into clothes. Regular people wear
clothes from unbleached linen. Nobles clothes were made from royal linen, which
was semi-transparent cloth.
Woman usually wears long, tight fighting, and strap dresses. Most women
wear dresses that are plain. Men wore kilts, and some were short and some were
long. In the winter men wore thick linen cloaks. Mostly plain tunics and kilts were
worn. Clothes are sometimes decorated and no costume was complete without
jewelry! Most of the Jewelry was made out of copper and faience. The rich wear
jewelry made from beautiful silver and gold.
Collars are one of the most popular things to wear now. It’s the hottest trend!
Men and woman of all classes wear collars. Collars are mostly made of strings
threaded with beads and ornaments. Berries, leaves, and flowers are also common
things used to make collars.

People in Egypt go barefoot most of the time. But sometimes they do wear
sandals. Poor peoples sandals are made from papyrus and woven grass. The riches
sandals are made of leather. They decorate the sandals beautifully. Sometimes even
in gold!
