The department of biophysics and medical image processing was created in Amiens’University hospital (France) in 1995. This research department established in the heart of the hospital, close to the clinical services, develops new treatment and analysis tools for MRI and PET images. It is specialized in physiology and physiopathology studies of CSF and blood flows starting from the acquisition of Phase contrast MRI images. This set of research themes is based upon an original treatment methodology of MRI images. We developed the first image processing software of CSF flow. This software, under constant evolution, enables us to quantify the CSF and blood flows, and their respective interactions during cardiac cycle. We have characterized the cerebral biological flows at various ages of life and in various pathologies. This fundamental research on CSF and blood flows now leads to clinical applications such as a diagnosis help in cerebral hydrodynamics disorders. In close cooperation with the services of radiology, neurosurgery, geriatrics and pediatric, we apply our investigation experience to the transverse study of pathologies having a potential link with CSF or blood flows.
