Thematic Climate Project for TXESS
This four-day workshop focuses on the following key themes of climate science literacy:

understanding the essential principles of Earth’s climate system

knowing how to assess scientifically credible information about climate

communicating about climate and climate change in a meaningful way

making informed and responsible decisions with regard to actions that may affect climate
Activities designed in this workshop will address the seven essential principles of climate science and are
supported by the fundamental concepts underlying the National Science Education Standards (NSES) and the
American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Benchmarks for Science Literacy. Those

Climate is regulated by complex interactions among components of the Earth system
Life on Earth depends upon, is shaped by, and affects climate
Climate varies over space and time through both natural and man-made processes

Human activities are impacting the climate system
Climate change will have consequences for the Earth system and human lives
