Incretin
How does it work?
Acts when sugar increases after a meal, increases insulin levels (help lower blood
sugar) and decreases glucagon (a hormone that raises blood sugar)
Typical names
Linagliptin (Trajenta™), Saxagliptin (Onglyza®), Sitagliptin (Januvia®)
Combination agents: Linagliptin/metformin (Jentadueto®), Saxagliptin/metformin
(Komboglyze™), Sitagliptin/metformin (Janumet®)
Usual doses
• Take Linagliptin 5 mg in single or divided doses with combination product
• Take Saxagliptin 2.5 mg to 5 mg in single or divided doses with combination product
• Take Sitagliptin 25 mg to 100 mg in single or divided doses with combination product
Dosing instructions
Doses typically given once daily (twice daily when combined with metformin)
