MINIMUM UNDERGRADUATE
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
• 2.0 GPA from high school if a freshman
applicant
• 2.0 GPA from all university work if a
transfer applicant
• Financial statement – $37,800 USD
• Score of 68 on TOEFL or 6.0 on IELTS
(for direct admission)
• SIU does offer conditional admission
to students who have not yet taken
or passed the English language
requirement. This allows you to study
English before beginning your regular
course of study at SIU.
• No application deadline (for most
undergraduate majors)
• No SAT or ACT for admission required
(however we do require it for the High
Achievers Scholarship – Page 3)
• No letters of recommendation or
personal essays

but the minimum requirements for SIU are:
• a $50 application fee

MINIMUM ADMISSIONS TO A MASTER’S
PROGRAM:
2.7 (on a grading scale with 4.0=A;
approximately a B- average)
3.0 on all previous graduate work
(approximately a “B” average)
MINIMUM ADMISSIONS TO A PH.D.
PROGRAM:
3.25 on all previous graduate level course
work (approximately a “B+” average) (some
exceptions apply)
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
80 on the internet-based TOEFL
6.5 on the IELTS

a Second Language (CESL)
ensures that language will not
stop you from succeeding.
All of our instructors have a
Master’s Degree or beyond.

• 18 Years old or
• completed secondary schooling,
and
• can submit proof of financial
support

records.
