IMPORTANT PROPERTIES

COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY:
The commutative property states that the order of the numbers can be
switched and the answer will remain the same.
EX: 4 + 5 = 5 + 4
EX: 8 x 9 = 9 x 8

ASSOCIATIVE PROPERTY:
The associative property states that the parentheses in an example can be
switched and the answer will remain the same.
EX: (9 + 7) + 5 = 9 + (7 + 5)
EX: (5 x 7) x 3 = 5 x (7 x 3)

IDENTITY PROPERTY:
The identity element for addition is 0 since 0 can be added to any number
to produce that same number as the answer.
EX: 5 + 0 = 5
The identity element for multiplication is 1 since 1 can be multiplied to
any number to produce that same number as the answer.
EX: 7 x 1 = 7
