PRACTICAL TRAINING ON MYSQL DATABASE MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM
1.0 Background
Data processing refers to the process of performing specific operations on a set of data or a
database. A database is an organized collection of facts and information, such as records on
employees, inventory, customers, and potential customers. As these examples suggest, numerous
forms of data processing exist and serve diverse applications in the business setting.
Data processing primarily is performed on information systems, a broad concept that encompasses
computer systems and related devices. At its core, an information system consists of input,
processing, and output. In addition, an information system provides for feedback from output to
input. Output typically takes the form of reports and documents that are used by managers.
2.0 Objectives
Generally, this course intend to equip participants with the knowledge of using opensource software
database MYSQL.MYSQL is the most popular Open Source Relational SQL Database Management
System. MySQL is one of the best RDBMS being used for developing various web-based software
applications.

To define Database Management Systems (DBMS)
To understand and define various terms and basic functionalities of phpmyadmin interface
Learn to install, configure a MySQL database
To create users on MySQL
To be able to list databases and creating tables
To populate and query databases
1.0 Methodology
The course will be conducted through lectures, discussions and practical workshop which includes
demonstrations and hands-on exercises in practical sessions in the lab using MYSQL workbench.
2.0 Target Participants
Practicing system analysist, database administrators, system adminstrators, ICT managers , ICT
professionals and any other interested parties.
3.0 Fees
The fee for the course is TShs 1,000,000/= (one million only) to cover for course materials ,
breakfast and lunch only. Payment may be in cash, cheques or bankers draft addressed to the Rector,
Institute of Accountancy Arusha or directly to our Bank Account No. 014103007130 NBC, Arusha
Branch. A discount of 3% will be offered to those who will sponsor 3 or more participants.
Participants are encouraged to come with their laptops.
4.0 Dates & Venue
The course will be conducted for five (5) working days from Monday 5th – Friday 9th , June 2017
at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha – Njiro Hill.
