AP Human Geography Guided Reading Questions Ch 9: Development As you read the chapter, please complete the below guided reading questions. You may submit your responses to me either physically (written on paper) or electronically (typed as a PDF). INTRODUCTION (p. 274) 1. Define development and explain the difference between an MDC and an LDC. ISSUE 1: WHY DOES DEVELOPMENT VARY AMONG COUNTRIES? (p. 274-­‐281) 2. List the three factors that help distinguish a country’s level of development. 3. Explain what the HDI is and how it functions. 4. Explain GDP. 5. List and define the three broad types of jobs (job sectors). Then explain how knowing a country’s economic structure relates to its level of development. 6. Explain how productivity is related to level of development. 7. Explain how access to consumer goods relates to level of development. 8.
