DPS Information Technology Pathway Overview IT Pathway Schools: West Campus (West Generations, West Career Academy and West Leadership High Schools) Lincoln High School High Tech Early College Student Age Range: 15-19 years old COURSEWORK: PROGRAMMING YEAR ONE: One of the following: IT Survey Course: Introduces IT careers and CAD, robotics, graphic design, computer programing, and web page design. Exploring Computer Science: Covers the major components of the computer, introduction to algorithms, web design, data and spreadsheets, robotics and programming using Scratch (language). YEAR TWO: One of the following: Robotics: Students learn programming through both drag and drop software and LabView software. They also begin learning javascript and/or coding. Students program robots to carry out basic commands. Computer Science Principles: This course covers the same content as a college introduction to computer science course. Students learn a coding language such as Python, Javascript, or Ruby and develop greater skill in using algorithms to build simple web applications. Web Applications: Introduces students to basic principles and standards of web design. Topics include a basic understanding of HTML, website planning, and CSS. WEB DESIGN YEAR ONE: One of the following: Intro to Computer Design: Students are introduced to the design cycle, design elements and graphics. Students learn basic image editing using Adobe Photoshop as well as desktop publishing using Word, Illustrator, etc. Student build a web page using a template. YEAR TWO: One of the following: Web Design 1: Student learn to how to create basic HTML documents, web page formatting, image file formats (GIF, JPG, PNG) and website hosting. 3D Animation: Students use state of the art 3D software (Adobe AfterEffects) to build and animate 3D models. Students apply basic camera animation and use a simple linear timeline and video editing techniques to create a visual presentation. GRAPHIC DESIGN YEAR ONE: One of the following: Intro to Computer Design: Students are introduced to the design cycle, design elements and graphics. Students learn basic image editing using Adobe Photoshop as well as desktop publishing using Word, Illustrator, etc. Students build a web page using a template. Graphic Design 1: Students learn the basics of graphic design including use of Adobe products, elements of design such as organization, color theory, positive and negative space, etc. Students also learn typography and basic image editing. YEAR TWO: One of the following: Graphic Design 1: Students learn the basics of graphic design including use of Adobe products, elements of design such as organization, color theory, positive and negative space, etc. Students also learn typography and basic image editing. Graphic Design 2: Students learn intermediate level design principles and more complex image editing, motion graphics and multimedia techniques. Desktop Publishing: Students taking Desktop Publishing learn basic design elements and create a variety of documents such as business cards, letterhead, flyers, etc. using desktop publishing software. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY YEAR ONE: Digital Photo 1: Students learn the basics of design and composition, photo retouching, special effects, and lighting. Students begin a portfolio which they continue to develop in Photo 2. DRAFTING YEAR ONE: IT Survey Course: Introduces IT careers and CAD, robotics, graphic design, computer programing, and web page design. YEAR TWO: Digital Photo 2: students develop skill in layer adjustments, advanced correction and lighting techniques, collage, special effects and use of Lightroom software. YEAR TWO: CAD Drafting Tech 1: Students learn the structure, components, and types of construction methods in pictorial format and prepare 2D drawings using CAD.
