What is Marijuana?
Marijuana and
Hash/Hashish come from
the plant Cannabis Sativa.
Marijuana is produced from
the flowering tops and
Hash/Hashish from the resin
of the plant.
Tetrahydrocannabinol
(THC) is the psychoactive
chemical in cannabis. There
are also 460 other
chemicals found in this drug.
Some of the street names
are:
Acapulco gold, ace, bhang,
Colombian, ganja, grass,
hemp, Mary Jane, sinse,
Panama Gold, pot, reefer,
joint, stick, rope, blunts,
smoke, bud, and weed.
Cannabis is illegal:
•
It has not been decriminalized.
•
It is purchased from criminals and
will bring you closer to criminal
activity.
•
Depending on where an individual
is arrested, penalties for
possession, use, and dealing can
be harsh.
•
Convicted individuals face fines,
possible imprisonment, a criminal
record, and lost job opportunities.
Cannabis is as harmful as
cigarette smoking:
•
Some people will mix marijuana
with cigarettes. This is called a
spliff. When they do this they
are now getting chemicals from
both tobacco and marijuana.
•
2 – 3 joints per day are equal to
20 or more cigarettes.
•
Marijuana smokers can also
get all the same lung diseases
as cigarette smokers.
Cannabis is natural, but that
doesn’t mean it’s healthy:
Cannabis has an effect on your
ability to drive:
•
Smoking cannabis and driving is
as deadly as drinking and driving.
•
Research shows that THC can
affect your ability to drive for 5 or
more hours after smoking.
•
The government is trying to make
road-side tests for police to use to
be able to tell if someone has used
cannabis before driving.
•
Many teens think that because
cannabis is a plant, it is safe
and healthy. This is not true.
•
The following drugs come from
plants, and they are not
healthy: tobacco, heroin, and
cocaine.
