WEATHER INTERPRETATION
Before any outdoor activity, you should check the weather conditions from a reputable
weather predicting source, such as the bureau of meteorology (BOM), or your nearest
National Parks and Wildlife Service who should have regular updates. As well as this, you
should be able to recognise some common features of clouds that can help determine
sudden potential weather changes. In the outdoors, this knowledge can help in decision
making such as aborting or altering your plans.
RESEARCH:
Most of us can look outside and make basic weather interpretations by looking at the
clouds. For example, little or no clouds suggest a fine day. Dark and heavy clouds that seem
low suggest that rain is likely. There are many different types of clouds with difficult names
to remember. Basically there are three types of clouds:
CIRRUS
STRATUS
CUMULUS
ACTIVITY:
Link the following names of clouds to the correct number.
Altocumulus, Stratus, Cirrus, Altostratus, Cumulus, Cirrocumulus,
Cirrostratus, Nimbostratus, Stratocumulus, Cumulonimbus
