Royal Quarter. Here you can see the Historical Apartments, learn

the Holyrood Park (also known as the Queen's Park), a great expanse
of greenery and forest in the middle of a modern city. (The palace is
closed during royal visits and ceremonies.)
Arrive in Glasgow and Transfer to Edinburgh

the Celtic for “The dear, green place” Glasgow has a variety of
stunning 19th century architecture and monuments to match its
modern city status. Continue on to Edinburgh, capital city of
Scotland. The city is built on a series of extinct volcanoes and offers
stunning views of the scenic countryside as well as abundant
historical splendor.

Lomond Hills of Fife. Pass the Palace of Holyroodhouse, still the Royal
Family's official residence in Scotland, and the city's monument to
Lord Nelson.

Day 5: York
Transfer to York
Continue on to York- many of England's secrets lie hidden tightly
behind its gated Roman walls.
Walking Tour of York
York, in the words of King George VI, is “the history of England.”
Starting at its acclaimed Minster, your Tour Director will introduce you
to the treasures within, not the least of which is the world's largest
stained glass window that adorns the south transept. Heading into
town you can explore the fascinatingly titled Shambles and cobbled
Whip-ma-whop-ma-gate while also taking the chance to walk on
some of the best-preserved Roman walls in England. Afterwards,
treat yourself to afternoon tea at one of York's many traditional
teashops.
Visit Edinburgh Castle
Your guided tour of Edinburgh includes a visit to Edinburgh Castle.
Situated atop an extinct volcano, the castle is the enduring symbol of
Scotland's capital and home to many of the nation's storied events.
Ownership of the fortress changed hands on numerous occasions
over the centuries, from Scottish to English and back again. Mary,
Queen of Scots, gave birth in the castle to James VI of Scotland, who
would later rule England as James I. Enter the castle through the
Esplanade and see the Stone of Scone, the coronation stone that
was returned to Scotland in 1997 after 700 years of English
possession. You'll also see tiny St. Margaret's Chapel, the oldest part
of the castle, dating back to the 11th century.
Guided Visit to the York Minster
Great Britain's largest Gothic cathedral is also York's treasured
trademark. Constructed between 1220 and 1470, the Minster stands
as a testament to medieval faith. Gaze up at the vaulted ceilings and
stone pillars as you tour the cavernous interior of the cathedral. The
Minster's east window, which depicts the beginning and end of the
world in 100 individual scenes, is the largest piece of medieval glass
in the world.
Visit Mary King's Close
Travel back to the 1600's with your costumed character tour guide as
they lead you through the alleys and streets of this 400 year old
neighborhood. Once a bustling area with traders and shops, Mary
King's Close is now shrouded in ghost stories and tales of murder
and plague. During your tour, you will learn all about the myths and
facts of this intriguing must-see stop in Edinburgh.
Day 6: York | Whitby

Dinner is included this evening.
Overnight in York
Excursion to Whitby
Visit Whitby Abbey
Situated on the east coast of Yorkshire, Whitby is rich with maritime,
mineral and tourist heritage. Visit the Abbey, which is well known for
being the setting of Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula. After your visit,
enjoy free time in Whitby.
Visit the Jorvik Viking Center
Step back in time to the city of Jorvik, as the Vikings called York over
a millennium ago. Climb aboard your trusty time car and explore the
city's Viking heritage through a mix of archaeological artifacts,
recreations, and conversations with real-live Vikings.
Overnight in York

Shakespeare.

Learn more about the English academic tradition in the nation's most
renowned university town. You will see the Sheldonian theater,
designed by Christopher Wren when he was Professor of Astronomy.
From here step into the silent Old Schools Quad, courtyard of the
Bodleian library. After your walk you might wish to climb the 125-step
tower of the University church for spectacular views and end with a
visit to Brasenose College
Walking Tour of Stratford
“It is something, I thought, to have seen the dust of Shakespeare.”
Discover what inspired Washington Irving's famous words as you tour
Stratford-upon-Avon, where Shakespeare was born, raised, and
buried. Step back into the Elizabethan age as you visit the
half-timbered home in which the Bard was born, as well as the Anne
Hathaway Cottage, a picturesque thatched farmhouse where
Shakespeare's wife spent her childhood.
Theater Performance in Stratford
Stratford is home to three Shakespearean theaters-you might enjoy
the majesty of the Royal Shakespeare Theater, the traditional
in-the-round experience of the Swan Theater or the intimacy of `The
Other Place.' Wherever it might be, the play's the thing and there can
be no finer group than the Royal Shakespeare Company, whose
members have included Sir Ian McKellan, Dame Judy Dench and
Kenneth Branagh. (Note: On occasion it is necessary to substitute
Stratford performances with those in London due to seasonal
openings of theaters.)
Dinner is included this evening.
Overnight in Stratford
Day 8: Oxford
Transfer to Oxford
Continue on to Oxford, famous English university town and long-time
rival of Cambridge.

Holy Trinity Church, located on the banks of the River Avon, is
probably England's most visited Parish Church. William Shakespeare
was buried and baptized here!

which adorned its original buildings. The main College quadrangles
date from the sixteenth, seventeenth and nineteenth centuries and
some newer rooms were built in the 1960s.
Visit Christ Church College
Christ Church is a unique institution, one of the largest colleges in the
University of Oxford and the Cathedral Church for the Diocese of

and many distinguished people have studied here including John
Locke, Robert Hooke, John Wesley, Robert Peel, William Gladstone,
W.H. Auden, David Dimbleby, Rowan Williams, Richard Curtis and

wizard through Oxford's most spectacular College. Many of the
scenes in the Harry Potter feature films are shot in various locations of
the College and as you walk around the cloisters and quadrangles it is
easy to see why. The Great Hall was replicated in the film studios to
create Hogwart's Great Hall.

of Oxford.
