Course Description: This course is a study of world history from 1750 to the present:
Age of Revolutions through the 20th century. Students will exam the chronological study
of World History. This study incorporates each of the seven standards: history, people in
society, geography, economics, government, citizenship rights and responsibilities, and
social studies skills and methods. As students study historic eras, they consider the
influence of geographic settings, cultural perspectives, economic systems, and various
forms of government. Students gain a deeper understanding of the role of citizens and
continue to develop their research skills.
Text: World History: The Modern Era
Classroom Rules and Policies: Students are expected to have a positive attitude and
respect for others. Students are also expected to arrive on time to class and have all
necessary materials for class. I follow the Marion City School’s attendance and tardy
policy strictly.
Sleeping is not allowed in class, this is rude and disrespectful.
Marion City Schools has defined plagiarism in the student handbook. Any work that is
plagiarized will be given a zero. Likewise, any student’s work that has been copied from
another will be awarded zero credit.
Attendance: Marion City Schools has adopted an unexcused absence policy of 4 days
per quarter. Students missing more than four unexcused days automatically fail for the
quarter.
Absences for school sponsored events must be approved by the teacher before hand, and
make up work must be arranged prior to the event.
Students are responsible for any and all make up work. Students are to check the make
up work desk when they return to class for any missing assignments.
Students with excused absences will be awarded the number of days absent plus one to
complete make up work. Work turned in after this deadline will be considered late, and
therefore, not accepted.
Late work: As a student you are expected to complete all work. Late work will not be
accepted on a daily basis. I will have a late collection day once a nine week period for
which students will have the chance to turn in any missing assignment they have
accumulated. Late collection day is NOT guaranteed for each quarter. As students
progress into the school year, I reserve the right to not have a late collection day in any
given quarter. All work turned in on this day will worth its original grade.
Having more than two missing assignments can result in a detention to be served with me
before or after school.
Cell Phones: Cell phones are not to be used, per the rules in the student handbook. My
classroom is equipped with a land line and parents may contact my room in the case of an
emergency. Cell phones will be confiscated if they are in use or disrupting the class.
Exams: All students are expected to take the first and second semester exams. Failure to
show up for an exam will cause the student to fail for that semester.
Grading Policy: Grades will be based on a point system. Projects, participation,
attendance, homework, daily work, and tests will be awarded accordingly. The following
grade scale will apply.
A
B
C
D
F
90-100

Class Supplies: Students will be required to cover and bring their textbook to class every
day. Students will also need a one subject notebook that will stay in the classroom
throughout the year.
Please sign the bottom of the page to ensure you have read the materials and have
the student return it to me by Tuesday, August 25th.
