Instructions for connection to Student Database Account through
Enterprise Manager
The following steps can be used to connect to your SQL account. All the CS/IT PC labs
are loads with the Microsoft SQL server client. Using Microsoft SQL server client you
will utilize the Enterprise Manager tool to view and edit your database.
To begin click Start then select Microsoft SQL Server and then click Enterprise
Manager.
This will bring up the SQL Server Enterprise Manager dialog box. In the console click
the plus sign in front of the Microsoft SQL Servers. Next right click the SQL Server
Group and select the New SQL Server Registration.
This will bring up the Register SQL Server Wizard dialog box. Click Next.
In the next dialog box type CS-SQLSRVR in the Available server: text box and then
click Add >. The server name you just type should now appear in the Added server: text
box. Click Next.
Select The SQL Server login information that was assigned to me by the system
administrator [SQL Server Authentication] and click Next.
At the next dialog box select Login automatically using my SQL Server account
information and enter your alpha in the Login name: text box and your password. Then
click Next.
Select the Add the SQL Server(s) to an existing SQL Server group and click Next
Click Finish.
The Register SQL Server Messages dialog box should now read “CS-SQLSRVR –
Registered successfully”. Click Close.
Now click the plus sign in front of the CS-SQLSRVR (Windows NT).
You should receive a SQL Server Enterprise Manager dialog box that reads The SQL
Server \\CS-SQLSRVR is not known to be running. Are you sure you wish to
connect? Click Yes.
Your view should now look like the below image. Click the plus sign in front of the
Databases.
Scroll down to your alpha and click the plus sign. You should now be viewing your
database on the SQL server.
