F.I.T.T. FORMULA
Three principles of a good exercise program are overload, progression, and specificity.
Exercising more than normal, or overloading, builds fitness. The principle of progression is
increasing exercise gradually. The principle of specificity means doing specific activities to build
specific parts of fitness. (An example is doing curl ups for abdominal strength)
The FITT formula helps you know how much exercise is enough to build good fitness.
The FITT formula is:
Frequency = how often a person exercises. You need to exercise at least three times a week for
minimum fitness. (Every day is better).
Intensity = how hard a person exercises. Remember, there’s a difference between pain that
comes from over exercise and the tiredness that comes from not being fit. For
cardiovascular fitness, the heart should beat in the 150-200 beats/minute range for
a teenager.
Time
= how long a person exercises. Exercise 20-30 minutes, three times a week to
maintain your fitness level.
Type
=what kind of physical activity are you doing (weight lifting, jogging, yoga. . .)
