Computer games are delivered on a variety of platforms,
which are themselves multiple remediating artifacts.
Arcade and videogames (games were first introduced in
arcades and then as home video units in the early 1970s).
Pong was one of the first games.
Next came pacman, two-dimensional game
The nintendo Game Boy introduced in 1989 repurposed
the pocket calculator and the portable computer, with a
claim to immediacy of experience through the intense,
almost hyonotic involvement of the user.
Then we have joysticks, keyboards and
trackballs to get control of the game.
In 1990 we got Doom and Quake.
Graphic roleplaying computer games have
their structure from the fantasi litterature
(lord of the rings)
- Onlinegames (world of warcraft)
In the future more online less PC games.
The social spaces of computer
games
Arcade games are in shopping malls or
airports. There is music and a lot of
people.
 Home video games is played where the tv
are. Everyone who is enterend the room
shares the experience of the game.
 PC is more singleplayer.
 Or you can connect to a online game.
 Virtual communities.

Digital Photography
Computer photorealism is trying to achieve
precisely what photography is trying to
prevent: the overcoming and replacement of
the earliere technology of photography.
 Looking at some of the photographs, we
cannot be sure what the computer has
changed, for nothing in the picture is
impossible in the world of light. (but we
know that the picture has been digitally
altered.

Photorealistic graphicst .
seeks to create a space that is purified of
all references to itself as a medium and to
other media. Use linear-perspective
painting, photography (a physical model –
consisting of polygons, textures and
algorithms, illumination and shading)
 Wants to demonstrate that photorealistic
graphics one day surpass the traditional
photograph.

Digital photorealists want to move more
and more pixels or polygons on to the
screen in order to bring the image up to
the limit of resolution of the human eye.
 The graphic photorealists think of
themselves as engenieers or scientists
creating a new technology where the
manual photorealists offer their work as
art.

Digital art
Digital art mean static images made with
pixels rather than oils or watercolors.
 Remediate from all sorts of traditional
visual art, from oilbased painting to penand-ink illustrations, photographs and
collage and photomontage.
 Digital art often refashions popular
illustration –above all, science fiction and
fantasy illustration from comic books and
pulp-fiction book covers


These digital images are often
photorealistic in the sense that they make
use of rendering programs to obey the
principles of perspective and shading.
Assignment 1. Make your own
digital art picture
Select a medium you want to remediate.
 Describe which tools/platforms you are
using.
 The assignment must include 2
illustrations of the same ”picture”
 Put the result in your portefolio.

Assignment 2: describe how the
world wide web have remediated.
Describe the several stages the web
already have passed, see chapter 12.
 How will the web remediate in the future.
 Is the web immediacy or hypermediacy??

