 Two categories of ocean circulation:
 Surface Currents:
 Upper 10% of the ocean.
 Driven (mostly) by wind.
 Deep Ocean Circulation:
 Thermohaline circulation.
 Driven by density.

 Currents:
 Large scale horizontal flow of ocean water.
 “A river within the ocean”.
 Help transfer heat to the cold regions of the world.
Warm water
travels up to
the North
Pole.
And down to
the South Pole.
