Examples of how humans interacted
and changed the environment
through the ages.
Early Man
•
Migration-Early Man migrated in
search for food and water.
•
Hunters and Gatherers-Early Man
hunted for food with spears. Women
Gathered berries and crops to grow.
•
Role-Early Man divided themselves
into roles. Each person had a role, men
hunted and women gathered. This
caused too much chaos.
Farmers and City Dwellers
•
Surplus-Farmers and City Dwellers
kept surpluses of food for themselves
for whenever a drought came.
•
Domestication- They learned how to
control their plants and animals incase
of food shortages.
•
Irrigation- They developed a way to
make the water go to their crops
whenever they needed it.
Mesopotamia
•
Ziggurat- The Mesopotamians made
ziggurats for their king. At the top of
the ziggurat was a palace for their
gods. Ziggurats were always in the
center of the city-state.
•
Clay Tablets-They developed a tablet
in which they kept information on. The
clay tablet helped store laws, music,
and trade.
•
Bronze-They also found a way to make
bronze, bronze made the tools
stronger and easier to use.
Egypt
•
Delta- At the top of the Nile river, was
a delta that emptied out into the
Mediterranean Sea. This produced silt
for the better soil.
•
Papyrus- Egypt found a way to mash
together papyrus reeds and make
paper. They used papyrus to write
laws, stories, and the way of life.
•
Pyramid-Pyramids were built for the
pharaoh. When the pharaoh died, the
Egyptians buried them in the pyramid
for the afterlife.
Greece
•
Harbors, Peninsula, Isthmus- Egypt
was bordered with many harbors. In
between Peloponnesus and the Balkan
Peninsula, is an isthmus. It was the
only thing that connected
Peloponnesus and the Balkan
Peninsula. Many civilizations
developed near harbors.
•
Cultural Borrowing-The Greeks often
borrowed ideas from each other like
writing systems, the way of living and
how to do certain things.
•
Trade- The Greeks had control of many
trade routes and basically could trade
for anything they needed. Whenever
they were short of something, they
could trade for it.
Rome
•
Road-Rome was the first civilization to
create roads. Rome built road so that
Roman soldiers could reach any place
that Rome controlled.
•
Concrete-Man-made substance that is
used in place of stone.
•
Aqueducts-System of bridges and
canals that carries water from a
natural source, such as a river, to a
town.
