Spices were the most prized import and provided
the greatest wealth to European merchants during
the Middle Ages.
A positive impact of trade on Europe in the
Middle Ages was the fact that scientific, cultural,
and artistic ideas were spread.
Rice enabled Southeast Asia to obtain the
manufactured goods it needed during the Middle
Ages.
Woven textiles were a major export of Western
Europe in the Middle Ages.
One way trade impacted the development of
population centers in the Mediterranean region was
the fact that port cities grew where goods could
be sold and transported.
