Do, Re, Mi….welcome to term 3!!!
This term we’ll explore ‘musical stories’ through Solfege.
Solfege is an education technique for teaching sight-singing. Each note of the score
is sung in a solfege syllable. The seven syllables are do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do
(just think “Sound of Music”!).
Singing melodies in solfege helps to develop inner hearing (audiation), musical
expressiveness, and a feeling for phrasing. Singing solfege for chord notes gives a strong
basis to understand harmony and harmonic progressions.
Young children are learning the alphabet as it relates to their language. The use of solfege
eliminates the possibilities of confusing musical terms with non-musical language.
We’ll demonstrate a sense of drama using familiar visual aids and develop aural skills
whilst encouraging tuneful singing. Children love having stories read to them but singing
is even more fun!!
