1. If it is a right triangle, use SOH ,CAH ,TOA ratios.
2. S.S.S Triangles
a) use the Law of Cosines to solve for the largest angle.
b) use the Law of Sines to solve for the second angle
c) Subtract the first triangles from 180 to find the third angle
3. S.A.S Triangles
a) use the Law of Cosines to find the missing side
b) use the Law of Sines to find the measure of any acute angle. (less than 90 degrees)
c) subtract the first two angles from 180 to find the third angle
4 A.S.A or A.A.S
a) find the third angle knowing all angles add up to 180
b) use the Law of Sines to find missing sides
5. A.S.S
a) spells trouble ........ambiguous case

Example 1
Given a triangle with a = 7,b = 13 and c = 17, determine all angles.
Step 1:
Make a sketch
Step 2:
Identify as S.S.S. Use Law of Cosines to solve for the largest angle.
C is the largest angle as it is across from the longest side.
Step 3:
Use the Law of Sines to determine another angle
2
Step 4 :
Solve for third Triangle
A = 180 - B - C
A = 180 - 113 - 44.7
A = 22.3
3
Example 2
Given a triangle with angle X = 65 , angle Y = 45 and y = 16cm.
Determine all missing parts.
Step1:
Step 2:
Determine angle Z
Z = 180 - X - Y
Z = 180 - 45 - 65
Z = 70
Step 3:
Determine the missing sides with the Law of Sines.
