The Excretory System
• This is the system that collects
wastes produced by cells and
removes wastes from the body.
• Kidneys are the main excretory
organs—BLOOD SCRUBBERS
1. filter waste from blood and
2. regulates the amount of water in the body
Wastes:
Urea-produced by the break down of
proteins in body cells
Excess water
Toxins or medicines broken down by the
liver
Urine-Waste that is left in the bladder
Here’s how it goes…
• After blood is filtered by the kidneys, the
waste that is left (urine)
• is passed through colleting tubes into
larger tubes, URETERS,
• which takes waste from the kidneys
• to the URINARY BLADDER.
• When the bladder fills, urine is passed out
of the body through the URETHRA.
IN OTHER WORDS:

the kidneys (nephrons)
