The Sacred Way:
Spiritual Practices for Everyday Life
By Tony Jones
Lectio Divina – Sacred Reading
Reading (Lectio) – slow down and savour.
Meditation (Meditatio) – attend to deeper
meanings. Pay attention to emotions.
Prayer (Oratio) – ask God for illumination
about meaning and emotions experienced.
Contemplation (Contemplatio) – beyond
words and intellect into communion with
God.
The Call to the Inner Life
Name some enemies of your soul.
How are you waging war against them?
What spiritual disciplines do you practice
consistently?
Which ones are encouraged in your
context and practiced by others – soldiers,
officers and other leaders?
Describe your relationship to the Holy
Spirit.
