What is an Epic?
An epic is a long narrative poem that tells of the adventures of heroes
who in some way embody the values of their civilization
Epics teach lessons and Greek virtues
Some examples of epics are:
-The Iliad
-The Odyssey
-The Aeneid
Other Examples of Epics
Divine Comedy – Italy
Gilgamesh – Mesopotamia
Mehabharata – India
Kamayana – India
Sundiata - Mali
Homer
Homer was an author who started the tradition of writing epics. He
wrote two of the most famous epics, The Iliad and The Odyssey.
The Odyssey is his most influential writing which inspired many modern
authors and writers.
Some Examples Are:
-The Incredible Journey
-Moby Dick
-The Hobbit
