IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICENT, THE MERCIFUL
BEING THE FOURTH SERMON FOR THE MONTH OF DHUL-QA’DAH 23/D. QA’DAH/1437AH
(26/AUG/2016CE)
VIRTUES AND RECOMMENDED ACTS OF THE FIRST TEN DAYS IN DHULHIJJAH
All Praises belong to Allah Who has honoured the first ten days in Dhul-hijjah with the day of Arafa, which is full of
blessings for sincere servants. Allah says:

“ By the dawn. And [by] ten nights. And [by] the even [number] and the odd” (89: 2- 3)
We celebrate His praises and seek help and guidance from Him. We believe in Him and put our trust in Him. Whom
Allah guides surely is guided and whom He misleads, surely you will find no one to guide or protect him. I bear
witness that there is no god except Allah alone, and that Muhammad (pbuh) is His servant and Messenger, who said:
“There is no day wherein an act is more rewarding as the ten days (of Dhul-hijjah), increase therein the
Tasbeeh, the Tahleel and the Takbeer ". O Allah! Bestow peace and blessings on him, his family, companions and
followers until the Day of recompense.
As to what follows,
Servants of Allah, I advise you and myself to fear Allah in consonance with the words of Allah thus:
ِ ‫"واتَّ ُق‬
ِ َ‫ُوِل ْاْلَلْب‬
ِ ‫ون ََيأ‬

And fear Me, O you men of understanding (2:197)
Brothers in faith, this is the fourth meet and the last in the month of Dhul-Qa’dah, and-Insha Allah, next Friday we
shall be in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah. Therefore we have chosen for discussion- VIRTUES AND THE
RECOMMENDED ACTS OF THE FIRST TEN DAYS IN DHUL-HIJJAH in order not to miss the great bounties that
come with the period.
Dear Muslims, all praises are due to Allah Who creates and prefers what he wills. He created the heavens and
honoured the Paradise, He created mankind and favors believers among them. And among believers, He chose the
prophets, among whom He ranked the selected five- Ulu-Al-‘Azm above other prophets, and also made prophet
Muhammad the leader of them all. He also created the earth and honoured Makkah. He created the days and made the
month of Ramadan the best month, Friday the best day, Laylat al-Qadr the best night and an hour on Friday its best
hour. He also made the ten days of Dhul Hijjah, which is fast approaching, the best of the tens, full of blessings and
status before Allah. It is the period Muslims make pilgrimage to the house of Allah for those with the ability once in a
life time, however, the benefits of the ten days are jointly enjoyed by both pilgrims and non-pilgrims.
Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah grant him mercy) was asked about the most rewarding of the first ten days of Dhul
Hijjah and the last ten days of Ramadan, and he replied: "The days of the first ten days of Dhul- Hijjah are better
than days of the last ten days of Ramadan, while the nights of the last ten days of Ramadan are better than the
nights of the first ten days in Dhul- Hijjah."
Some of the virtues of the first ten days in Dhul- Hijjah:
-
ٍ َ‫“ )والْ َف ْج ِر ولَي‬By the dawn. And [by] ten nights.” (89: 2-3)
Allah swore by it in the Qur’an thus: (‫ش ٍر‬
ْ ‫ال َع‬
َ
َ
It falls within the month of hajj which is also one of the sacred months.
The religion of Islam was completed in the month, and the Jews are envious. A Jewish priest said to Umar- may
Allah be pleased with him, “There is a verse in your Book, if it were to be revealed to us - Jews _ we would have
taken that day for feast, Allah says: “This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor
upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion." (5: 3), Umar said:" I know when and where it
was revealed; it was revealed on a Friday at Arafah"
1
-
It is a day full of virtues wherein the name of God where mentioned, the Almighty said: "That they may
witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided
for them of [sacrificial] animals. "{Hajj 28}
It is also the best days in the world, most beloved by Allah, acts therein are most beloved before Allah. Jabir
narrated that the Prophet peace be upon him said: "The best days in the world are the ten days (first ten
days of Dhul-hijjah), then some companions said: “Are there none like them even in the way of Allah?
He said: And there are none like them even in the way of Allah, except a man who soil his face in the
sand" Narrated by al-Bazzar and Ibn hibaan, and Albaani graded it as Sound."
The Prophet said: “No day is superior before Allah, or that a deed done there in is beloved to Allah- the
exalted, than these day, i.e: the ten days. Then the companions said: O messenger of Allah, not even
Jihad?" He replied, "Not even Jihad, except a man who goes out with his soul, and property (for Allah's
sake) and does not return with any of those things." (Tirmidhi)
Ibn Abbass narrated that: “The Prophet said, "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those
done on these (first ten days of Dhul Hijjah)." Then some companions of the Prophet said, "Not even
Jihad?" He replied, "Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his
property in danger (for Allah's sake) and does not return with any of those things." (Bukhari)
-
Arafa day also falls within the period of these ten days, as well as the night to be spent at Muzdalifa having left
mount Arafa.
The day of slaughtering which is considered by some scholars as the superior day of the year, is within the ten
also, because it consists of mast of the rites of hajj including: stoning pebbles, shaving the head, slaughtering
for those at hajj and non-pilgrims, tawaf-al ifadhoh, sa’y, eid prayer. The prophet said: “The greatest day
before ALLAH is the day of slaughtering, then the day of rest at Muna (the 11th day of D.hijjah) "
Narrated by Abu Dawood and Nisaai, Albaaniy grade as sound.”
-
Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said in Al-Fath: "What seems to be the reason for distinguishing the first ten days of Dhul
Hijjah is that major acts of worship take place within it, they are prayer, fasting, almsgiving and pilgrimage,
which are not existing in other periods." {Fathul- Bari }. These are the same days Allah gave to Musa (AS) that
he could complete his term of forty nights. Allah says:
(} 241 ‫" )"وواعدنا موسى ثالثين ليلة وأتْممناها بعشر فتم ميقات ربه أربعين ليلة " {األعراف‬And We made an appointment
with Moses for thirty nights and perfected them by [the addition of] ten; so the term of his Lord was
completed as forty nights. " {7: 142} (see- Tabari 13 / 86-87)
-
Therefore, the ten days should be spent to maximize the reward therein by all Muslims.
RECOMMENDED DEEDS IN THE FIRST TEN DAYS:
1- Sincere repentance. Allah says: (‫)وتوبوا إلى هللا جَميعا أيها ْالمؤمنون لعلكم تفلحون‬
“And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.” (9: 31)
2- Prayer: being early to prayer and hasten to be in the first row, making lot of supererogatory prayers,
Thawbaan said: I heard the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him said: " Make frequent prostrations before
Allah, for you will not make one prostration without raising you a degree because of it, and removing
a sin from you "(Narrated by Muslim).
3- Fasting, as narrated by Hunaida bin Khalid from his wife, from some of the wives of the Prophet- peace be
upon him, she said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to fast nine days of Dhul Hijjah,
the day of Ashura, and three days of each month," narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawood and Nasaai”
4- Performaning Hajj and Umrah: The prophet- peace be upon him, said: " An Umra is an expiation for the sins
committed between it and the next, and Hajj which is accepted will receive no other reward than
Paradise.." {Narrated by Muslim}.
5- I'tikaaf, Ya’la bn Umayah said: "I will stay in the mosque for an hour and I do that only for I'tikaaf."
6- Chanting Takbeer, Tahleel, and Tahmeed: Narrated Ibn Amr that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "“There is no day
wherein an act is more rewarding as the ten days (of Dhul-hijjah), increase therein the Tasbeeh, the
Tahleel and the Takbeer". " Narrated by Ahmad. Bukhari reported that Ibn Umar and Abu hurairah go out to
the market during the ten days chanting takbeer, and people chorus their takbeer praises"
7- Performing lots of prayers and seeking forgiveness and more supererogatory prayers.
2
8- Slaughtering on the Day of Sacrifice. The prophet- peace be upon him said: "No human performs an act most
pleasing to Allah on the day of slaughtering as shedding the blood of animals of sacrifice" {Tirmidhi}.
Shaykh Muhammad bn Saalih Uthaimeen said: "the word of the prophet (pbuh) referring to good work, includesprayer, charity, fasting, remembrance, saying takbeer, reading the Qur’an, goodness to parents, joining ties of
kinship, kindness to all creatures and good neighborliness, and so on." (Shar’h of Riyadh-us- Saliheen 3/395.
Islamic Etiquette for those who wish to slaughter:
He should abstain from shaving, cutting or pulling all his hair and nails whenever Dhul-Hijjah begins till the Day of
Sacrifice- the tenth day of Dhul-Hijjah. Muslim narrated from Umm Salamah that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
"When you sight the crescent of Dhul- Hijjah, and one of you wishes to make sacrifice, he should abstain from
cutting or shaving his hair and nails."
Second Sermon
Praise be to Allah the Lord of the worlds. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon Muhammad, his household,
companions and all those who follow his footsteps till the day of judgement.

Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient
women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the
charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the
women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so - for them Allah has prepared
forgiveness and a great reward.. (33: 35)
Dear brothers and Sisters, the UNO uses 26th August annually to commemorate WORLD WOMEN’S DAY.
We would like to use this opportunity to stress the Islamic position on women. Does the woman have any worthwhile
status in Islam? Does Islam honours or humiliate her? These are some of the issues to be addressed in the following
elucidation.
To start with, let us see some of the ways Islam honours a woman:
1- She is honoured as human in many ways that cannot be found in other religion. She is viewed as the twin
halves of men. The best of men is also described as the kindest to their women. As a baby, she has the right to
be nurtured, trained and educated. The Prophet (pbuh) said: “The best of you is the best to his wife, and I am
the best among you to his wife.” (Ibn Majah, Al-hakim)
2- As she grows in youthful age, she enjoys more attention, care and protection from all forms of harm and
molestation.
3- When she marries, that should be through solemnization in the name of Allah, to live in with the husband with
prestige. It is obligatory on the husband to honour and be kind to her and ward off her all forms of harm. Allah
says: “And live with them in kindness” (4: 19)
4- As a mother, her right to kindness is linked with the right of Allah to worship, while disobedience to her is
linked with associating partners with Allah and transgression.
5- As a sister, the injunction in islam is to honour her and show sense of jealous for her.
6- As an aunt, she occupies the position of a mother and deserves such respect and kindness of a mother.
7- As a grandmother or as an aged woman, her honour rises before her children and grandchildren and relatives,
she is virtually not turned down on any of her requests or shown any degree of contempt.
8- And where she lives alone isolated from families and relatives in such case, she earns the preserved right to
honour in Islam, which is unavailable elsewhere. Allah says: “The believing men and believing women are
allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give
zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those - Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is
Exalted in Might and Wise.” (9: 71)
9- She also have the right of ownership and possession, buying and selling, the right to learn and teach in
accordance with Islamic dictates, in the same degree as permitted for men except where peculiar rulings are
3
َّ ‫ ) َوَما َخلَ َق‬And [by] He who
specified for men or women. Allah says: (.}4-82:1:‫ش َّّت﴾{اللّيل‬
َ َ‫) إِ َّن َس ْعيَ ُك ْم ل‬3( ‫الذ َك َر َو ْاْلُنْ ثَى‬
created the male and female, ( 4 ) Indeed, your efforts are diverse. (92:1-4).
10- She is also enjoined to adorn the hijab so as to guide her honour, protect her from wagging tongues of
lewdness and unpleasant looks and indecent mingling. Allah says: “And tell the believing women to reduce
[some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which
[necessarily] appears thereof “ (24: 34)
11- The husband is mandated to spent on her to cater for her, relate with her in kindness and desist from
oppressing her. “Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and
what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth.” (4: 34). Allah also says: “… Upon the father is the
mothers' provision and their clothing according to what is acceptable.” (2: 233)
12- Islam also grant the couple the permissibility to divorce when love is lost, and both could not live together in
peace and harmony, then the husband is permitted to divorce her. In the same vein the wife is granted
permission to seek for dissolution of the marriage where the husband oppresses her, in this case she would
have to return a value to him as agreed upon by the two parties.
