What is Cancer???????????
Cancer is a disease in which cells grow and divide
uncontrollably, damaging the part of the body
around them.

Cancer begins when “something” damages
the DNA in the chromosome…this is called
a MUTATION.
Theses mutations disrupt the normal cell
cycle, causing cells to divide in an
uncontrollable way.
These abnormal cells from a mass called a TUMOR.
Cancer spreads when some of the
cancerous cells break off the tumor and
enter the blood steam.
There are three common ways to treat
cancer:
 Surgery
 Radiation
 Drugs (that destroy the cancer cells)
Surgery is the best treatment when cancer has been
detected early and it has not spread to other parts of the
body.
Radiation is beams of high energy waves.
Radiation is used to treat fast-growing
cancer cells.
Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to treat a disease.
These cancer treatment drugs are carried
throughout the body by the blood stream. These
drugs kill cancer cells or slow their growth.
Ways to prevent CANCER:
 Avoid smoking
 Eating a healthy diet
 Protect your skin from the sun
