Verbrugh., MD., Ph. D., FIDSA Anyone can be infected by a disease when in a hospital. The infections can come from various bacteria, one of them is Staphylococcus Aureus. It was said by a Professor of Master Program in Biomedical Science of Erasmus University Medical Center, Prof. Henri A. Verbrugh, MD., Ph.D., FIDSA in the guest lecture in FK, on Thursday (20/11). Said by Prof. Henri that the infection which is caused by Staphylococcusaureus bacteria can infect the incisions. According to him, the incision becomes the biggest contributor to the infrection bacause of S. Aureus Bacteria. Besides of incision. The infection of Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria can cause Endocarditis, the infection in prosthetic device, CAPD peritonitis, skin wound, burn, and etc. Besides the infection of the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, the threat of patient safety can be caused by the use of excessive drugs. The use of drugs which can threaten the safety of a patient is an antibiotic. "Various drugs will make the microorganisms become resistant which can threaten the safety of patient in the future," he said. To ensure the patient safety, some steps are stived, are to reduce access to the operating room, keep the room temperature, not to shave the patients’ skin, and the use of antimicrobial prophylaxis appropriately. Furthermore, he said that the safety of patient becomes the main thing which must be reckoned with. A negligence of medical personnel can cause an error which can cause minor injury to death. In the United States, the death rate of patients which are caused by the negligence of medical staff medical reach 7-14 percent per year, or about 50,000 to 100,000 of the death. While in Netherland from the survey which was held in 21 hospitals in 2005-2006, 2.3 percent of patients injured because of the negligence, and there are 8 percent died.
