Introduction
J2EETM technology and its component based model simplifies enterprise development and
deployment. The J2EE platform manages the infrastructure and supports the Web services
to enable development of secure, robust and interoperable business applications.
Overview
Hot Topics
Java Servlet Specification v2.4, Proposed Final Draft
The Servlet Specification v2.4 introduces new APIs of Request/Response Listeners and has
enhancements for the extensibility of Deployment Descriptors, using Filters under the
Request Dispatcher, portable logout method from Web applications, and
internationalization.
Using Web Services Effectively from the JavaTM BluePrints Program
Web services are a highly effective means of enhancing interoperability across
heterogeneous platforms. The article Using Web Services Effectively, from the Java TM
BluePrints Program, describes enterprise application environments that benefit from Web
service implementations. In this article the interaction models (messaging or RPC based)
for document-oriented and RPC-oriented Web services, their processing models (document
centric or business object centric) and their interaction types (from asynchronous through
synchronous) are discussed.
Enterprise JavaBeansTM Specification v2.1, Proposed Final Draft
Enterprise JavaBeansTM (EJBTM) is a component architecture for the development and
deployment of component-based business applications. The EJB server-side model
simplifies the development of middleware applications by providing automatic support for
services such as transactions, security, and database connectivity. The EJB 2.1
specification enhances the EJB architecture with support for Web services.
JavaTM Authorization Contract for Containers, Proposed Final Draft
The JavaTM Authorization Contract for Containers (Java ACC) specification (JSR-115) defines
new java.security.Permission classes to satisfy the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition
(J2EETM) authorization model.
Announcing: The Java Verification Program
The Java Verification Program is designed to identify enterprise applications developed with
J2EE technology that are intended to be portable across different implementations of J2EE.
J2EE Platform Specification v1.4, Public Draft
The Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) defines the standard for developing multitier enterprise applications. The J2EE 1.4 platform specification introduces new APIs which
implement core Web services protoccols stack. It also introduces new Management and
Deployment APIs, new versions of the JavaServer PagesTM, Enterprise JavaBeansTM, and
Connector APIs, along with other features which establish J2EE 1.4 as a premier Web
services and enterprise application intergration platform.
Java Web Services Developer Pack 1.0_01
The Java Web Services Developer Pack (Java WSDP) is an integrated toolset that in

conjunction with the Java platform allows Java developers to build, test and deploy XML
applications, Web services, and Web applications. The technologies comprising the Java
WSDP include the Java APIs for XML included in the Java XML Pack, JavaServer Pages
Standard Tag Library (JSTL), Java WSDP Registry Server, Web Application Deployment
Tool, Ant Build Tool, and Apache Tomcat container.
JavaTM XML Pack Summer 02 Update Release
The latest release of the Java XML Pack includes the Java API for XML Messaging (JAXM),
the Java API for XML Processing (JAXP), the Java API for XML Registries (JAXR), Java API
for XML-based RPC (JAX-RPC), and the SOAP with Attachments API for Java (SAAJ).
J2EE Connector Architecture Specification v1.5, Proposed Final Draft
The J2EE Connector Architecture specifies a standard architecture for integrating J2EE
applications with enterprise information systems. The J2EE Connector Architecture 1.5
specification provides bi-directional synchronous/asynchronous communication, message
provider pluggability, lifecycle management, transaction inflow and thread management.
J2EE Connector Architecture 1.5 specification will be a part of the J2EE 1.4 platform.
JavaTM BluePrints Pet Store Sample Application v1.3.1
Available for download from the Java BluePrints Program, the Java Pet Store Sample
Application v1.3.1 is the latest release of this popular example. This update moves into the
realm of Web services and adds greater emphasis on the Web-based technologies of the
J2EETM platform. Among the updates included in this release are enhancements
demonstrating best practices for adding Web services to existing applications using the
Java Web Services Developer Pack and features to enable asynchronous interaction
between Web services applications.
