Confucianism
 Confucius lived from 551 to 479 BCE he was born in a small
state of Luin located in eastern China.
 China’s Lords were fighting for power beetween 772 and 481
BCE his own state was invaded many times.
 According to Confucianism the five basic relationships are
ruler and subject husband and wife father and son older
sibling and younger sibling friend and friend.
 All people must respect and obey those above them.They
must respect there elders in return those with authority
such as rulers fathers husbands and older siblings.

 It had a very practical effect on the government
under a later dynasty the Han dynasty people
who do the work of government are called the
civil savants.ad a major influence
 In China the civil savants were mostly the sons
of nobles.
 The teachings of Confucianism had a major
influence on Chinas culture.

Daoism
 According to tradition the great sage of wise man was Laozi.
 He was said to be the author of the Dao De Jing.
 The Daoists believe that everyone must discover the Dao for
themselves to many laws and social rulers got in the way of
living naturally and following the Dao.
 The Yin and the yang are yin means shaded and yang means
sunlight.
 Rulers should behave like not feeling to important or not
striving for posessions.

 According to Daoists people should avoid feeling self





important.
Daoism encouraged rulers to rule less harshly.
Daoism developed into a popular region.
Old stories Of Laozis life tell how he became to write Dao
De Jiang.
Daoism taught people that gained happiness and peace living
in harmony or agreement with with the way of nature.

Legalism
 Hanfeizi was a prince of the royal family in the state of Han.
 To create a strong society Hanfeizi thought they should
establish strict laws enforce them with rewards for good
behavior and harsh punishments for bad behavior.
 A ruler should govern like rulers should have absolute power
and backed up by military might.
 The Qin dynasty applied to the teachings of Hanfeizi by
wanting to build a strong government and well organized
society.

 Hanfeizi lived from about 280 to 233 BCE.
 Legalism was based on the idea that most people are naturally
selfish.
 Legalists said that people always pursue there own self
interest.
 Legalists philosophy almost had immediate influence on
Chinas government.]
 At the end of the Warning Sates period the Qin dynasty
seized control.
