1) EDETA. EL TOSSAL DE SANT MIQUIEL
Iberian settlement. VI B. C. – II B. C. Declared Propery of Cultural Interest.
This deposit was situated in the centre of antique iberic Edeta, capital of the region that laid till el Xuquer
al Palancia. It was inhabited between VI and II B.C. and occupied the territory of ten hectares. The city had
very big politic and economic impact on iberian peninsula and played important role during second Punic
war between romans and cartagens in 3rd century B.C.
It lays at the foot of the medieval hermitage of San Miguel, about 400 meters far from the town of Liria and
extends up the slopes of the hill. There is preserved remains of the path carved into the rock on the north
side access. The houses are built with adobe walls on stone plinths. The rooms were of different heights,
different spaces and were communicated with each other by stairs.
Tossal de Sant Miguel is well known for his ceramics with painted scenes depicting various aspects of the
aristocratic society. This is a large collection of archaeological pieces of different shapes and sizes
decorated with inscriptions and paintings showing the modus vivendi of the aristocracy of that time:
scenes of war, hunting and ritual dances that helps to understand and interpret life of society of that
period. This material is currently exhibited at the Museum of Prehistoric Valencia and the Mall,
Archaeological Museum of Liria.
The town is abandoned as a result of the Roman conquest.
