NORTH PENN HIGH SCHOOL LESSON PLAN
I. Objective(s): TSW simplify proportions by reducing the fractions.
TSW convert larger units of measure to smaller units.
TSW define proportion.
II. Standard(s):
M.2.1.8.D Apply ratio and proportion to mathematical problem situations involving distance,
rate, time and similar triangles.
M.2.9.5.L Identify properties of geometric figures (e.g., parallel, perpendicular, similar,
congruent, symmetrical).
M.2.9.11.F Distinguish between similar and congruent polygons.
III. Anticipatory Set: Journal: Journal: Bret’s Tomtom displays a map which has a scale of 4
cm equal to 1 mile. If the display shows he is 10 cm to his destination, how far is he actually?
IV. Activities:
1. Review warm up
2. Complete 8.1 Notes (ppt)
a. Define Proportion
b. Simplify Ratios in examples
c. Students simplify ratios in packet.
d. Check to see understanding.
3. Mini Quiz (5 questions on ratios, proportions & quadrilaterals)
4. 8.1 Practice B in partners.
5. HW: Complete 8.1 Practice A (#21-27)
V. Closure: Journal: A submarine model of the Ohio class is purchased. The actual size of the
submarine is 560 feet long. If the scale for the model is 1 inch : 16 feet, how long is the model?
VI. Assessment:
1. Journal
2. Practice A & B
3. Mini Quiz
VII. Self Assessment:
